This is not a direct suggestion for a running mate, but is relevant to the process I think. The future success of the Green Party depends, to a large extent, on embracing city dwellers and communities of color. Green Party policies on universal health care, creating green jobs, ending the drug war, and bringing home our troops would certainly benefit urban communities (along with the rest of us). But… as a CT co-chair and former New London chair, I know that we often suffer from an elitist attitude that gets in the way of our really growing our party. In addition to Green Party, I’m also involved with a very small activist group called the Community Party which works to end racial profiling and workplace bullying, promotes drug policy reform and a “Plan C” budget (based on a progressive income tax; corporate tax reform; a public bank for Connecticut; Temporary Assistance for Needy Families reform; and returning war dollars to the state). It’s a very diverse group, and some members are frankly wary of the Green Party. So… in addition to consideration of other ways to make the Greens more accessible, I would like to the choice of a running mate further our party’s growth beyond the progressive white community. Thanks! Ronna

Share your ideas for a running mate

vp_jill_stein.pngOn May 13, Mother's Day, the Jill Stein campaign announced that Dr. Stein had crossed the 50% threshold to winning the Green Party's 2012 presidential nomination. With 200.5 delegates required to win the nomination, and 105.5 delegates in hand, Dr. Stein has moved from frontrunner to prospective nominee. She has won over 75% of all delegates allocated, with the next nearest candidate at 14%.

Many have asked about who Jill Stein will choose as her vice presidential running mate. Now that she is the prospective nominee, we need to hear from you:

  • Who would you like to see considered for this role?
  • What are you looking for in a vice presidential candidate and in a running mate for Dr. Stein?

Your response will help the campaign begin the vice presidential search. All responses are confidential and will not be publicly released. Thank you for your assistance.
